The lighted shadow boxes were a surprise for my wife. The tall wall of the stair well was begging for something to break it up. They were built mostly of scrap lumber; 1x6 trim and bead board. The individual boxes were built and attached to facing trim to fit between the wall studs on this interior wall. They were painted and the lights installed prior to installation. 120v (no transformers as with 12v) halogen puck lights are controlled with a wall switch. Cost just about nothing but sure do draw a lot of comments. Other than painting, it took me one morning.
