April 13, 2001   Setting the sewing room beam. (6x16x20') This 100 foot hydraulic crane cost about $700 for three days. No operator; I performed that function. We placed stacks of roof decking in the attic while we had it.

The beam had a slight crown which would be fine for stick building. It caused the roof panels to have a 1/2" gap at one end of the ridge. I know that is not much and doesn't matter but we prided ourselves on precise fitting. The challenge was to not be able to stick a 16d nail between joints. I should have snapped a line and cut my ridge bevel along the line rather than use the beam edge as a reference.
